Sony has announced that it has sold 50 million units of its Playstation 5 since its launch. The Japanese manufacturer announced that it had reached this milestone in a press release published on December 20.
It was particularly in the 2022-2023 fiscal year that the Playstation 5 was most successful, with almost 19 million units sold. In its press release, Sony talks about the “best month of November in terms of Playstation sales.” Last July it had already surpassed the mark of 40 million units sold.
The Playstation 5 was launched in November 2020, three years ago. Since its launch, the next-generation console has suffered a number of dangers, including an almost constant shortage of stock since its launch, linked to the semiconductor crisis that has hit since 2021.
Stocks finally filled
It was only last October that Sony announced that it could count on full stock for the upcoming Christmas season. At the same time, the company presented a second version of its Playstation 5, which eventually adopted the name “Slim” and which will ultimately replace the first model.
This new 2023 version of the console does not change the gaming experience in any way, it is simply a little smaller than the 2020 version.
“We are grateful to all the gamers who have joined the PlayStation 5 journey so far. We are also excited to start our first holiday season with full stock of our console, so everyone can get one if they want,” Sony said in its press release published on December 20.
Finally, according to rumors, Sony intends to present a “Pro” version of Playstation 5 in 2024, in line with gamers’ expectations.
