It was on his social networks where Jérémy Valdenaire made his announcement. This Wednesday, December 27, the professional player of League of Legends -known by his pseudonym Eika- sent a “very personal message”: “I would like to tell you that I am gay.”
When coming out, Eika returned above all to the difficulty of “daring to be the person you are” in the field of electronic sports, “where homophobic comments are still heard,” she says. Jérémy Valdenaire believes he has “won a battle” against himself.
“Don’t become a taboo”
In less than a day, the publication (also spread on Instagram) was viewed more than 2.1 million times on X (Twitter). He received many messages of support, even from streamer MisterMV. His real name is Xavier Dang and he is part of the trio that heads the Aegis esports structure. Eika was part of the first “League of Legends” Aegis team, renewed a few weeks ago.
A wish supported by Clément Laparra, director of esports at Karmine Corp. This structure is one of the most popular in France and has recently joined the European gaming elite. League of Legends.
He hopes that this announcement will open “the way for those who do not dare.” Furthermore, he would like the perspective on homosexuality to change. “It is important that we do not become like traditional sport, where it is taboo,” says Clément Laparra.
