Ikea withdraws charger from the market due to risk of burns and electric shocks

Ikea recalls a multi-prong USB charger due to risks to the owner.

The furniture store Ikea has issued a recall alert for a USB charger due to the risk of electric shock and burns.

The charger, whose reference is “ÅSKSTORM dark gray 40W USB charger”, was sold in all Ikea stores in France between April 1, 2020 and December 5, 2023. This is the charger below.

An alert was posted on the Rappel-Conso website on Tuesday, January 9, listing products dangerous to consumers that must be returned to the point of sale.

The store states that there is a “risk of burns and electric shock caused by wear and tear on the power cord that occurs when the cord is wrapped around the charger or repeatedly bent.”

Owners of the charger are therefore requested to stop using it and, if possible, return the product to the point of sale or contact consumer service. Ikea agreed to refund customers who purchased the product.

At the end of 2023, another type of charger, sold in DIY supermarkets, was removed from the market due to the risk of electrocution.
