iPhone: a new function of iOS 16 causes battery problems

Many users have noticed a decrease in the autonomy of their iPhone since the arrival of iOS 16. A new virtual keyboard option would be in question.

With each arrival of a new operating system for iPhone, many users often notice a reduced autonomy of their device. This usually lasts a few days, while the new iOS orients itself and readjusts itself to the owner’s habits, running certain apps in the background. This time the problems with iOS 16 They seem to last a little longer.

And the cause of this drop now seems to be known: the keyboard’s new haptic feedback feature.

All iPhones affected, but not all users

This new feature in iOS 16 makes the iPhone vibrate with every keypress so the user can feel what they’re doing. Unfortunately, it appears that this benefit, especially for the visually impaired, comes at the expense of battery.

As discovered by the 9to5Mac site, the activated function remains effective even when the iPhone is in power saving mode, which continues to affect its autonomy, while the principle of this mode is to limit power-consuming functions.

The problem affects a wide range of devices from the iPhone XR. But Apple smartphones running iOS 16 seem to be affected very randomly, with some experiencing no issues. But it is especially at night that the consequences on autonomy are felt with losses of 10 to 15% while the device is in standby mode.

Apple has not confirmed this anomaly detected by several users. However, a Support page exists on the brand’s website for this function. And a message indicates that activating the sound or haptic feedback can affect the autonomy of the iPhone, but without saying if it is daily or long term.

iOS 16 has already had two minor updates for fixes of all sorts. The next major version is expected on Monday, October 24 (iOS 16.1). In particular, it should add clean power charging, real-time information on the lock screen, or even Matter support from the Home app to better manage your connected objects.

How to disable haptic feedback option?
– Go to Settings > Sounds and vibrations.
