100 euros for old smartphone insurance: former Indexia (Sfam) customers taken despite themselves

Dozens of consumers claim to have been victims of illegal direct debits from their former insurer Sfam (now Indexia). They have eight weeks to challenge these operations.

Indexia (Sfam) clients have not reached the end of their problems. Since the beginning of March, many customers have observed improper deductions from their bank accounts coming from the former mobile phone insurer, notes the l’Informed site.

The pattern is always the same: they bought a mobile phone or a computer between 2017 and 2022 from Fnac Darty, SFR (subsidiary of Altice France, like BFMTV), Orange or CDiscount. And they have taken out insurance against theft and loss with the French Multimedia Insurance Company (Sfam), a partner of these brands. At that time they were charged several monthly payments of 15.99 euros on average.

Today everything starts again. Former clients of the insurance company explain that during the month of March they were charged without their knowledge, the first time 29.99 euros and then a second time 69.99 euros.

A dozen testimonies

All this, despite the termination of contracts and the blocking of direct debit mandates. Sfam simply created a new direct debit mandate, with a new number, thus escaping the blocking of the previous one, according to Informed.

Dozens of testimonials have been published in the main Facebook support group for Sfam clients or former clients, which has more than 5,000 members.

Demands accumulate

According to information from l’Informed, two other waves of wild capture were recorded in September and December 2023.

This return of wild harvesting comes at a time when society is being cornered from all sides. Indeed, Urssaf gives up part of the subsidiaries of the group (Hubside, Celside, Foriou, etc.) in liquidation due to a debt of 11.76 million euros. The case will be examined next April.

At the same time, hundreds of consumers have filed complaints against the mobile phone insurer. The trial will take place in September. UFC Que Choisir also filed a complaint in 2019 after the DGCCRF fined Indexia €10 million for “deceptive commercial practices.”

Victims have eight weeks to challenge these samples. These should be repaid without difficulty by the banks. 60 Millions de Consommateurs, for its part, advises blocking the mandate number, written next to the text that appears on your statement.

Victims can also report the company to Fraud Prevention on the SignalConso website.
