Calls, SMS, emails or even social media, personal training account fraud (CPF) is on the rise. Given this, the State is strengthening the connection system. Starting October 25, two-factor authentication will be available when purchasing on-site training through FranceConnect+.
The connection will be made in two stages: once the identifier has been indicated, a code will be sent by SMS, as is already the case for connecting to certain bank accounts. The new system is based on La Poste’s Digital Identity. To create a Digital Identity, you must be of legal age, have a French identity document and have a smartphone.
A harder task for scammers
Until now, the connection and purchase of training in the personal training account was done in FranceConnect through a single connection. FranceConnect already provides access to more than 1,400 online services. For its part, FranceConnect+ centralizes new services such as access to a medical file or the request for a vehicle registration document.
Last August, FranceConnect was flagged for security flaws in accessing her Ameli account. This tool was used in 49% of connections to the service, according to acteurs publics.
The state takes scams very seriously. On October 7, the National Assembly approved a bill aimed at prohibiting commercial prospecting by CPF account holders. The penalty could amount to a fine of 375,000 euros for a legal person. In 2021, according to Tracfin, suspected CPF scams accounted for €43.2 million.
In most cases, CPF scams rely on a phone call to convince the victim to create an account, before giving their identifiers to the scammers. The latter then use them to buy training offered by fraudulent organizations. Double authentication could make your task more difficult by imposing the communication of the code received by SMS by the legitimate account holder at each connection.
