Why you should not access social networks with your work computer

Reinforced by teleworking, the use of the professional computer for personal purposes is not without consequences. Opening a malicious file puts your business at risk.

Telecommuting, a blessing for hackers. They send a malicious file to employees, often through social media. Once opened, the system allows them to enter the professional’s computer and thus recover the company’s data, as indicated numerama in an article.

According to a survey by Yubico, a computer security specialist, 57% of respondents use a professional device for personal purposes. The most used sites in this situation are Twitter, Spotify and Facebook.

“Ransomware currently represents the most serious computer threat to companies and institutions, due to the number of daily attacks and their potential impact on business continuity,” underlines the National Agency for Information Systems Security (ANSSI) in a report . In 2020, ANSSI has registered a 255% increase in ransomware-related incidents, with 192 attacks reported.

Diversify your passwords

And this was illustrated again on October 13. A large phishing operation, dubbed Ducktail by IT security firm WithSecure, targeted Facebook Business accounts. Hackers target these accounts, gain access and then give themselves admin rights and unlimited maneuverability.

According to WithSecure, “This trend is likely to continue: cybercriminals will increasingly use these platforms to distribute malware, launch disinformation campaigns and carry out fraudulent activities (…) in the future, attacks on social networks could have an impact More serious”. .

To avoid such risks, the best way is to limit the use of social networks and your personal mailbox by using your professional computer. The other tip is to diversify your passwords as much as possible.
