Elon Musk confirmed on October 27 on Twitter that he was buying the social network. An announcement that comes after long months of upheavals and legal battles between the businessman and the platform’s shareholders, after he tried to withdraw from the operation during the summer.
In a long message, Musk recalls that in his eyes it is “important for the future of civilization to have a common digital public square, where opinions can be discussed in a serene atmosphere, without leading to violence.”
The “World’s Most Respected” Advertising Platform
“Currently, the main danger is that social networks become echo chambers of the extreme right and the extreme left, generating more and more hate and dividing our society,” insists Elon Musk, visibly worried about appeasement.
Still in his message, going against his initial promises of absolute freedom of expression, Elon Musk reaffirms the platform’s obligation to comply with “the laws of the countries” in which it is established. A concession that he had already mentioned in the past.
Elon Musk also wants to reassure advertisers by reminding them of the interest that targeted advertising can have in their eyes. “Twitter aspires to be the world’s most respected advertising platform that strengthens your brand and grows your business,” he promises.
For now, Twitter has not yet confirmed the completion of this acquisition.
