Online video giant YouTube announced Thursday that it will now certify the accounts of doctors and other caregivers so it can highlight trustworthy videos about health, a way to try to limit misinformation on these topics.
The change should allow users to immediately recognize quality videos on health topics, the Alphabet (Google) subsidiary said.
Find trustworthy content
It should also help users “find and engage with content” created by caregivers on the platform, YouTube manager Garth Graham wrote in a blog post.
The certification process, which will include verification of degrees, will also be open to mental health professionals and institutions.
With the Covid-19 pandemic, a lot of false or misleading information about the disease and vaccines has been spread on the Internet.
