In physical version, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 offers you to buy an (almost) empty disc

Players who have purchased the latest addition to the “boxed” shooter saga will not be able to access the game. The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 disc only contains 70 MB of data.

If you are a fan of Call of Duty, you will surely have the opportunity to play the latest title before Christmas. Finally we sincerely hope so, especially if you live in a white area. Because the latest addition to Activision’s flagship license, coming out on October 28, has a big surprise in store for all those who have laid their eyes on the physical version of the game.

In the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 box, there is indeed a disc. The only problem is that it is almost empty, notes The Verge.

Internet, a new obligatory step to play

With only 72 MB of data, the physical version of the game simply does not allow you to play the latest title developed by Infinity Ward. The information was shared on Twitter by “Play?”.

This account specializes in verifying access to video games. Specifically, inspect physical games to see if they can be played without an Internet connection. For the Call of Duty franchise, the last installment to meet this criteria was 2018’s Black Ops 4. And again, partially.

150GB download expected

For several years, players have become accustomed to the famous “first day patch”. This data to be downloaded on the day of a title’s launch corresponds to the last adjustments made by the developers between the production and the launch of a game.

During the last few episodes, a light download was essential. But this time, Call of Duty innovates and imposes the recovery of 150 GB of data, that is, the entirety of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, indicates Eurogamer. Therefore, a mention “Internet Required” is present on the cover of the game.

So sad news for little connections. Especially since the latest study by the Syndicate of Leisure Software Publishers (Sell) showed that in France, more than two out of three players (68%) prefer physical games to dematerialized ones.
