Working on a project for several years, feeling the hype build as the release neared, and finally seeing its content leak across the internet less than two weeks before release. This is what the developers at Santa Monica Studio have been experiencing since this weekend.
While the studio’s next video game is about to be released, some retailers have missed the release date of god of war ragnarok. Players were able to get their hands on the title and spread plot elements on social media.
A game sold two weeks before its release
On October 30, Sony-owned Santa Monica Studio released a statement lamenting the reveal of the title’s plot. To “preserve the gaming experience,” the company invites players to “hide keywords and hashtags associated with the game before it is released.”
Very upset, the studio’s creative director, Cory Barlog, shared his anger on Twitter. Between frustration and annoyance, he indicated his sadness at seeing a game sold out two weeks before its release.
He was referring to the last obligations whose physical version included only 72 MB of data. However, Cory Barlog later indicated that he did not want this “empty disk” phenomenon to become widespread.
A release scheduled for November 9.
In 2013, the sale before its official release interrupted the release of GTA 5, published by Take-Two. More recently, the company has suffered massive leaks regarding the next installment of this same saga, GTA 6. Still in development, these are technical elements that have been made public.
god of war ragnarok is a Sony exclusive and should be released on November 9 only on PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles. The title should continue the adventures of Kratos and Atreus, started in the first work of the title released in 2018 and available since the beginning of the year on PC
