What is Listenbourg, the country created on Twitter to make fun of Americans?

Listenbourg is a fictional country created from scratch by a handful of Internet users on Twitter. Originally a simple joke, the territory has become a real trend on the social network.

Americans have a reputation for being low on geography. Based on this observation, Internet user Gaspardo posted a fake card. Trapped in Portugal and Spain, a new territory appears: the Listenbourg.

Participate in inventing the history of the country

But the publication is gaining momentum. With 83,000 likes, the prank went viral. Promoted fourth trend France on Twitter, the topic benefits from the relief of the main accounts of the platform: delivery services, transport, sports organization, all contribute their grain of salt.

Author of the first tweet, Gaspardo is promoted president of Listenbourg. On Discord, everyone is invited to participate in writing the history of the fictional country. Since then, content creator Valouzz has planned to vacation in Listenbourg, while journalist Samuel Etienne is “very seriously considering” doing his press review there on Twitch.

A Formula 1 Grand Prix

Two days later, Listenbourg has a stadium in the Staduim Traveler app, which accompanies fans on their journey to the sports halls. Waze GPS navigation service offers to drive you on the roads of the fictional country. Similarly, Delivroo offers to deliver your food to the spot.

The sports commentator, Julien Fébreau, also participated in the hoax. The Formula 1 specialist has announced the country’s integration into the events of the 2023 motorsport season. By setting the Grand Prix du Listenbourg on February 29, 30 and 31, 2023, he takes the joke further by giving an appointment in a fictitious place on nonexistent dates.

But some wanted to go too far. Initially intended to make fun of Americans, one surfer wanted to send the trend to American television. This is how you can find on Twitter a photo montage showing a Fox News anchor talking about it. This is a fake since Gaspardo’s joke did not cross the French borders. At least for the moment.
