Amazon announced on November 1, 2022 to strengthen its music service for its Prime members. The key is a catalog of over 100 million songs and podcasts, all ad-free. A snub to its competitors Apple and Spotify.
So far, the Amazon Music app has only offered two million music titles, a weak service compared to competing platforms.
But Amazon is also betting on the success of podcasts. The American giant has worked on its advertising effect with the arrival of many native podcasts, only on Amazon Music.
The app also wants to stand out from its competitors by offering a new feature, “Podcast Previews,” which lets listeners listen to podcast excerpts they’re likely to like. Other more classic American podcasts are also released, such as those of CNN, NPR, New York Times Y ESPN.
Pay to get the most
The app also offers basic features like the ability to mix any artist, create custom playlists, or download songs for offline listening.
However, the service will not be completely free. Amazon Prime members will be able to access the entire catalog ad-free, but only in shuffle mode with the ability to download music offline. To take full advantage of the service, Prime members will need to upgrade to the app’s paid tier (Amazon Music Unlimited) and pay €9.90 per month.
Through this service, Amazon expands its offer to compensate for the increase in its Prime subscription, which went from 49 to 69.90 euros per year last September.
