France Identity: Beware of this scam that uses a real government email address

The France Identity application alerted Internet users about a scam in the form of emails that stole their identity.

An email that looks real, but is actually a scam. This Wednesday, October 23, the France Identity application, which allows you to dematerialize your identity document, warned about a phishing campaign.

“For several days now, users have been receiving emails sent by [email protected] asking them to send a copy of their double-sided identity document and proof of address,” warns France Identity on (formerly Twitter) . ), asking users to be attentive.

Fake email, real email address

Phishing, also known as phishing, is one of the most used scam techniques online. In most cases, scammers pose as a public service (health insurance, taxes, etc.) or a company, with a fake email address, to encourage the victim to click on a link or transmit data.

In the case of France Identity, the fraudulent emails are sent from the real address of the application. It is possible that the scammers used an old protocol that allowed them to spoof a real email address to achieve their goals. France Identity, contacted by Tech&Co about this question, has not yet responded.

If the email address does not detect the scam, other signs indicate that it is a scam. In fact, the fraudulent email contains spelling errors, but also approximate punctuation, as shown in the screenshot shared by France Idété.

When faced with these fraudulent emails, the application urges users not to respond. It also encourages them to report them on the platforms cybermalveillance.gouv.fr and signal-spam.fr.
