Ten years after his last real foray into video games (aside from spin-offs for iOS and Android), Rayman will soon return. Ubisoft announced that a new game starring its former mascot was “in early development” within the Montpellier and Milan studios.
It is not (yet?) a new version
Xavier Poix, director of Ubisoft studios, gave an exclusive interview to Tech&Co’s Multijoueurs program. He gave more details about this project, but declined to confirm whether or not it was a remake of a previous episode (e.g., the first or second installment).
For the occasion, Michel Ancel will sign his return – he left Ubisoft Montpellier in 2020 -, but he will only occupy a consulting position: “Michel [Ancel] It is not present within the teams. We drew on our talent in the universe and needed it to be consistent with the past. [de la franchise, ndlr]”.
Additional details will be given “next time”, “sometime next year”, i.e. in 2025.
Rayman, who was first a mascot, little by little gave way to other important Ubisoft franchises, such as assassin’s creed. Above all, with the release of the Wii in 2006, the hero moved on to the Rabbids to entertain younger audiences. The mischievous rabbits had many adventures, including two games on Switch featuring Nintendo characters, including Mario.
