“Gasline chips”: Brets cancels new flavor contest citing “his intern” error

Brets has launched a surprising competition on X to decide its next flavor of crisps. An idea that the potato chip brand will end up regretting when Internet users offer them quite special tastes.

Do you prefer tacos chips or lasagna? The Breton brand of potato chips Brets is known for its wide variety of crunchy flavours. An originality that has no limits since we recently saw pastis-flavored crisps appear on the shelves.

So Brets had the idea of asking X users to decide which would be the next flavor to hit the shelves in a limited edition. On Thursday, October 24, the chip manufacturer’s account launches its online contest to choose its next flagship chip without knowing which taste will emerge victorious.

As expected, proposals poured in from Internet users, all hoping that the flavor of their dream potato chips would come true. But there is one flavor in particular that has won the hearts of potato lovers: “gasoline chips.” The lead-free crunchy went viral and rose to the top of the competition’s most popular flavor ranks.

Given the magnitude of the phenomenon, Brets finally decided to back down and withdrew his competition “as fast as a handful of chips.” In a press release published on Monday, October 28, the brand explains that the announcement of this contest was somewhat rushed, ironically with the excuse of the “intern” who published the ad by mistake.

Annoying braking

This cancellation greatly upset the contest participants, although it seems unlikely that the gasoline chip will triumph. Above all, the excuse of “intern” goes down quite badly among Internet users.

“The intern’s excuse, in 2024, really? And his explanation is also completely false. The post remained online for many hours, allowing several responses to obtain several thousand likes,” criticizes one of them.

However, Brets’ team congratulates the “incredible creativity” of Internet users and specifies in its statement that “all the most realistic suggestions” will be taken into account. But, much to the dismay of proponents of lead-free chips, there’s a good chance we’ll never get to try a chip that tastes like that. Surely for the best.
