Passionate about reptiles, a South African YouTuber died from a snake bite

Graham “Dingo” Dinkelman, who describes himself as a conservationist, posted numerous videos showing him around wild animals, particularly reptiles. He died after spending a month in a coma following a bite.

He liked to live dangerously. On October 26, YouTuber Graham “Dingo” Dinkelman died from a snake bite, the Daily Mail website reports. Nicknamed the “Steve Irwin” of South Africa, he often posted videos of himself with wild animals, including snakes and crocodiles, on YouTube and Instagram, platforms on which he had 109,000 and 643,000 subscribers respectively.

Allergic to snake venom, Graham Dinkelman, who defines himself as an environmental defender, was bitten at the end of September. “Goofy was bitten by a venomous snake which, unfortunately, due to his allergy to snake venom, caused him to go into anaphylactic shock,” his wife, Kristy, explained on the latter’s Instagram account.

He died after a month of coma

The YouTuber has since been placed in an induced coma and doctors kept him sedated to give his body every chance to fully recover.

A month later, Graham Dinkelman sadly died from the bite. “Goofy fought hard during this very difficult time (…) Unfortunately, despite his strength and resilience, my beloved husband died today peacefully, surrounded by his family,” his wife announced in a message transmitted by the organization. This wasn’t the first time the YouTuber was bitten by a snake. In January 2024, he published a video to tell his story after being bitten by a black mamba, which is one of the most dangerous snakes in the world.
