If you updated your iPhone this Monday, October 28, you may see a new icon appear in the top left when you call someone. In fact, Apple has implemented iOS 18.1, a new version of its mobile operating system that brings its share of improvements and features.
This icon represents a new feature: Call Recording. As the name suggests, it allows recording phone calls, which users can find in the Notes app.
Feature inaccessible in the EU
Specifically, when the user presses this button to record a call, the interlocutor is informed through an audio message, as indicated by Apple in a press release. A recording module is also displayed above the phone menu.
In France, however, it is not possible to use this function. As Tech&Co, as well as several users, point out, the new icon disappears when the interlocutor picks up the phone. Apple specifies on a support page that this feature is currently inaccessible in the EU and other countries, but without providing further details.
It should be noted that in the United States, users, in addition to being able to record calls, have the possibility of obtaining a summary generated by Apple Intelligence, an artificial intelligence system that is not yet available in France. It is expected to arrive in the country from April 2025.
