Artificial intelligence (AI) is “nihilistic” and “woke,” American billionaire Elon Musk said Tuesday during a video conference speech at an investment forum organized in the Saudi capital.
Saudi Arabia’s crown prince and de facto ruler Mohammed bin Salman is seeking to position his country as a world leader in artificial intelligence, a topic that dominated the day’s discussions at the Future Investment Initiative (FII).
Addressing the participants in this forum that brings together the world’s economic elite in Riyadh, Elon Musk was optimistic about the technology, but warned about the political influences that he considers integrated into the models developed in the United States.
AIs “tend to be trained to be politically correct, and many of them, trained in the San Francisco Bay area, have adopted the philosophies of the people around them, which is understandable,” said the Tesla boss and SpaceX.
He cited an example in which an artificial intelligence model argued that confusing reality TV star Caitlyn Jenner was more dangerous than nuclear war.
Elon Musk, a former supporter of Democrat Barack Obama, has recently adopted more conservative positions, broadcasting messages in favor of Donald Trump and criticizing his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, daily on X, which he also owns.
“The biggest obstacle to our progress is excessive regulation (…) It takes more time to obtain a launch permit than to build a giant rocket,” he said.
