A true autonomous robot. This Wednesday, October 30, Boston Dynamics published a video to show a new capability of its Atlas robot, presented last April. He is now able to do push-ups and can also move objects, as shown in the video. In it, the robot takes engine covers placed in containers and places them on a mobile sequencing cart.
On YouTube, Boston Dynamics assures that none of Atlas’ movements are “teleoperated”, nor that it acts completely autonomously. The robot has only been given a list of locations to move the engine covers to, the company says.
A robot capable of adapting to difficulties
The video shows Atlas having some difficulty performing his task at certain times, for example sometimes having difficulty placing an engine cover in its location.
With this video, the company highlights the autonomy of the Atlas, unlike Tesla with its Optimus robots. Earlier this month, they caused a stir at an automaker event, taking selfies and serving drinks to guests.
While Elon Musk touted the capabilities of his robots, they were not autonomous, but were actually controlled remotely by humans. Which is probably not unrelated to the fact that the Boston Dynamics video continually shows the words “fully autonomous.”
