A “people wash”: a Japanese company presents a capsule that cleans itself automatically

At the upcoming Osaka Kansai World Expo, a prototype “people washing machine” will be presented to the general public.

What if you washed yourself without having to take any action? In any case, this is what the Japanese company Science Corp, a specialist in “smart” bathtubs, wants to offer you, which has presented the prototype of a “personal wash.” Presented in April 2025 during the next Universal Exhibition, which will take place in Osaka, the project responds to certain hygiene needs.

In reality, it is a capsule in which you will lie down to partially submerge yourself in the water. The water jets allow you to wash the upper part of the body and face. It takes about fifteen minutes to be completely clean, before starting a drying cycle: a flow of hot air is launched.

Significant water savings

The concept may make you smile, but it actually provides a solution for elderly or disabled people who cannot wash themselves. In addition, Science Corp highlights the water savings achieved. Being a robotic capsule that washes you, it alone manages the flow and water sent to your body.

Better yet: to keep your guinea pig waiting, the capsule projects images on its windows, the goal of which will be to relax them. During cleaning, sensors analyze the user’s pulse to ensure the correct water temperature.

In addition to its presentation scheduled for April 2025, this “personal wash” capsule could also be marketed to the general public. Science Corp intends to offer a production version if it is successful at the World’s Fair. The price is still unknown.
