Scheduled for September 2025, the iPhone 17 remains the subject of rumors. The successor to the iPhone 16 could be accompanied by a particularly good new version. So far, Apple offers four models: Classic, Plus, Pro and Pro Max. But the Plus model could thus be replaced by this new model, which would be the thinnest ever designed by the company.
In addition to this change, the iPhone 17 may lack a SIM card tray. According to The Information website, not all prototypes of this future smartphone have this drawer. The engineers working on the latter wonder where to place the SIM card, but also the battery and thermal materials.
An even more expensive iPhone?
If Apple does indeed abandon the SIM card tray next year, it wouldn’t be a change for American users. Since the iPhone 14, all models sold in the United States do not have the latter, and use an eSIM. A model completely without a SIM card would be a novelty in France.
The Information reveals other details about the iPhone 17. The glass surrounding the photo sensors could be replaced with aluminum. The smartphone could also be equipped with a more energy-efficient battery, which you will need if its thickness does not exceed 6 millimeters.
If so, the iPhone 17 will be thinner than the iPhone 6 (6.9mm thick), which is currently the thinnest model to date. However, this finesse will be a big challenge for Apple: in 2014, the iPhone 6 faced sturdiness issues.
In exchange for this unique design and the technological developments it implies, the iPhone 17 Air could see its price rise. Still, according to The Information, the device could also be sold more expensive than the Pro Max model, available from 1,479 euros.
