Nth turn in the saga of Twitter. Just days after launching an $8 paid subscription option to earn a certification badge on your account, Twitter is temporarily removing this feature called Twitter Blue. In question, the proliferation of fake accounts on the social network.
A note sent Thursday night to Twitter employees, seen by US media on Washington Post, says the break is “to help address identity theft issues.” And clarify that current users of Twitter Blue will continue to have access to the functions of the subscription. Twitter confirmed this decision in a tweet published on November 11.
Among these identity thefts are political figures such as a fake Joe Biden account that received this famous certification or Tesla, of which Elon Musk himself is the CEO. A fake account claiming to be pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly also surfaced and remained online for three hours. Without the identity verification system, anyone could obtain a certification credential.

In a tweet on November 11, Elon Musk made the point, criticizing in a tweet about many people impersonating him on the platform, saying that “accounts that practice parody should include ‘parody’ in their name, not only in his biography”.
The only way to know the difference between the old and new certification: Click on a blue badge to find out if an account has paid to be verified or if it is a certification prior to the new policy introduced by Elon Musk.
In his last hours, the new owner of Twitter stated in particular that the platform is not immune from bankruptcy, while resignations of key positions are linked.
