Screen activities must be prohibited for children under six years because “they alter their health and intellectual abilities in a sustainable way,” argue five scholarly companies in a column published on Tuesday.
This “call to collective consciousness” is addressed “to young parents, teachers, educators and pedagogues, caregivers, political decisions -decision -manufacturing” and is signed and put online by the French pediatric society and those of public health, the psychiatry of children and adolescents and ophthalmology, as well as the health of French and the environment and the environment.
The screens do not meet the child’s needs
The current message of the health authorities, “without screen before three years”, is “clearly insufficient and must be updated to the light of recent knowledge”, becoming: “without screen before six years,” they say, a year after the report of the children and the screens of a commission of experts sought by the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron.
“In 2025, doubt is no longer allowed and the many international scientific publications are there to remind us: neither the technology of the screen nor its content, including those supposedly” educational “are adapted to a small brain in development,” the signatories add.
Health professionals and kindergarten teachers and preparatory courses “take into account the product damage for regular exposure to screens before entering primary school: language delay, care disorders, memorization, motor agitation …”, continues the text.
“If it is all socio -educational circles, the exhibitions are stronger in disadvantaged homes, which contributes to the increase in social inequalities.” Because the development of the neurode of the child’s results “of the observations and the rich interactions with the environment” for which “the first six years of life are fundamental”.
