Google has just launched three new tools using generative artificial intelligence, with the promise of helping users learn new foreign languages.
According to the research giant, these tools, called small language lessons, should make it possible to offer personalized exercises thanks to the language model you have developed. At the moment, these are only small advanced tools, but they all have their usefulness.
More human exercises thanks to Gemini
The first experience is the specific sentences that can be used quickly during a trip, for example, to request a hotel room or verify a destination. The second seeks to offer exercises with less formal language, when you are in a bar, and can adapt more to the town where you are.
Finally, the third uses the camera, such as Google Lens, and allows you to capture your environment to resort to new words in a given context. You are in the restaurant and photographs a menu, then you will have exercises and elements according to him.
For Google, it is about responding to a request from those who wish to learn a language, especially in the case of an emergency. Not all are bilingual as soon as it reaches a country, so receiving advice on vocabulary or grammar to use according to the context can have a very beneficial effect.
Google here comes to compete with Duolingo directly, who seeks, thanks to AI, to make the discussion and learning of languages more pleasant. Available through Google Labs, these tools are currently free and care for English, German, but also Greek, Italian, Japanese or Spanish and Russian.
