Mexico officially pursues Google in the Court for the change of name of its gulf

The presidency of Mexico has announced that Google continues to accept, at the request of Donald Trump, to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

It was one of the most unexpected measures taken by Donald Trump and one of the first. Back to the presidency of the United States, Washington’s strong man had decided that the Gulf of Mexico renamed that bathes the southern United States, Mexico and a part of the Caribbean in the “Gulf of America.”

Google had quickly accepted the decree signed by the new host of the White House and requested the application on Google Maps. Three months later, the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced a complaint against the Internet giant for that.

However, from Mexico, the Gulf is always called “Gulf of Mexico.” But for their neighbors in Central and South America, the two denominations appear together. Google had explained that the name changes in its service followed the official government regulations such as the Geographic Name Information System (GNI) in the United States. Apple ended up doing the same after resisting demand for a long time.

The Mexican president had proposed to change the name of the United States in “Mexican America”, referring to a 17th -century map where the name was mentioned.
