The launch of this characteristic had been delayed for more than a year due to European regulations that supervise new technologies, such as the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and those of digital and AI markets.

Already directed last year by complaints from Noyb in 11 European countries, the group founded by Mark Zuckerberg had to suspend his project in June 2024. This formal notification letter is “the first step” before a possible judicial order or even a collective action, Noyb emphasizes, warning the group of “considerable legal risks” if it persists in its strategy.

This association based in Vienna, whose acronym means “none of its business” (“is not their belongings”), is the origin of many complaints against web giants, which has resulted in fines of billions of euros.
