In terms of protection of minors, “our challenge for us and for the industry in general, is the verification of age,” said Grégory Gazagne, regardless of the inauguration of the new facilities in Paris, attended by the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron.
For this particularly popular platform manager for young people, 91 % of 15-24-year-old children use Snapchat, according to the company, it is necessary to “centralize this decision in terms of application stores, either Android Store or the App Store.”
Find a “simple and sustainable” solution
In addition, Apple and Google “are actors who are accustomed to processing personal data” and “it would probably be more security than if they were scattered in all available applications,” according to him.
“There is a discussion with the government, the main actors and other platforms, which have exactly the same challenges, to try to find in the industry a solution that is simple and lasting,” said Grégory Gazagne.
Emmanuel Macron confirmed, during his interview in TF1 last week, wanting to impose a verification of the era of adolescents to register on social networks, believing that there was “a young man who was beaten” by these platforms.
The delegated minister in charge of Digital, Clara Chappaz, is trying to mobilize the European partners of France to demand the verification of the user’s age by large platforms, such as what is already done in France for the pornographic content. Mrs. Chappaz even wants to go further and military to ban social networks before 15 years in France.
Like Snapchat, the American giant Meta (Facebook, Instagram) begs for the age verification obligation in the App Store (Apple) and Google Play Store, not on social networks.
