Emirates are launching a new AI model in Arabic

Falcon Arabic “is equal to the performance of the models up to 10 times larger,” according to the ABU Dhabi Advanced Technologies Research Council, which supervises the project.

The United Arab Emirates announced on Wednesday the launch of a new artificial intelligence (AI) model in Arabic, presented as the most efficient in the region.

The rich oil country of the Gulf, which seeks to impose itself in this area, had presented in 2023 Falcon, an “open source” model developed by the Institute of Technological Innovation (TTI) of Abu Dhabi, competing with US products such as Chatgpt d’Openai.

“We are proud to finally take Arabic to Falcon, and even more proud than the most efficient model in the Arab world was built in the United Arab Emirates,” he welcomed Faisal Al-Bannai, the general secretary of the Research Council on Advanced Technologies of Abu Dhabi (ATRC), which enters the project, cited in a press release.

Great investments

Falcon Arabic has been trained in data from Arab languages that cover the various dialects of the region, and “equals the performance of the models up to 10 times larger,” according to the press release.

ANTRC has also announced the launch of Falcon H1, a model that allows “to reduce computer power and technical experience that is traditionally required to operate advanced systems,” according to the same source.

During the visit of President Donald Trump last week in Abu Dhabi, the Emirates and the United States signed an AI Agreement, providing Emirati investments in data centers in the United States. The country has also announced investments of around 30 to 50 billion euros in France.
