Given employee protests regarding their contracts with the Israeli government, Microsoft has decided to act. As reported by the US media, the company’s US employees discovered that all emails containing the words “Palestine” or “Gaza” were temporarily blocked.
Dozens of them had not sent emails, including these two words, as well as the term “genocide” in the object or body of the message, according to the Nozure group for apartheid (NOAA), which is composed of previous and current employees to mobilize against Microsoft contracts with the Israeli government.
On the other hand, the “words like ‘Israel’ or ‘P4lestine’ do not trigger that blockade,” he said, denouncing “an attempt to yawn from the freedom of expression of employees and a censorship established by the Microsoft administration to discriminate against Palestinian employees and their allies.”
Inappropriate use
With the edge, Microsoft confirmed that it has made some changes to reduce the “political emails” within the company. “Send emails to a large number of employees on non -professional issues is inappropriate. We have a forum dedicated to employees who have chosen to participate in discussions on political issues,” said a company spokesman.
These changes come after the conferences and other Microsoft events have been recently disturbed by employees. On May 19, one of them interrupted the CEO Satya Nadella in the middle of speaking on the occasion of the annual developer conference to denounce “Israeli war crimes” fed “by commercial technologies.
“As a Microsoft employee, I refuse to be an accomplice of this genocide,” he launched before being escorted by security agents. He then sent an email to thousands of employees of the company in which he explained why he had decided to act.
Employees also interrupted other presentations organized at the annual conference on May 20 and 21. The protests occurred a few days after Microsoft, after an investigation, said “that it has not found evidence” that their technologies were used to damage the inhabitants of Gaza. Explanations that obviously have not satisfied certain employees.
