The social network Twitter has taken a new measure to combat the spread of fake accounts and accounts impersonating celebrities. In fact, the latter have largely developed on Twitter since the establishment of “certified” payment accounts, a device now suspended by the platform.
From now on, newly created accounts will have to wait 90 days to be able to subscribe and be indicated as “certified”, pointed out the specialized media TechCrunch. This new rule is indicated in the conditions of use of the social network.
“New Twitter accounts will not be able to subscribe to Twitter Blue for 90 days. We may also impose time limits on new accounts in the future, at our discretion and without indication,” the English news page related to Twitter. Blue.
Temporarily suspended, Twitter Blue subscriptions will also resume on November 29.
No more name changes
At the same time, Elon Musk indicated that already verified accounts can now change their name, but this will cause them to lose the badge, until the social network can authenticate their account. Only announced on Twitter by the CEO, this measure has not yet been officially included in the rules of the social network.
This news bodes quite well after Twitter’s ups and downs in recent days, and could effectively stem the wave of fake accounts and misinformation that has been unleashed there since Musk took the reins. If so, the social network does not collapse in the coming days, as some users fear.
Currently, the Twitter Blue subscription is only available in the United States, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia.
