Telegram: French justice rejects Pavel Durov a trip to Oslo

The founder and CEO of Telegram, accused of complicity in criminal activities, was invited by the Foundation of Human Rights to participate in the Freedom of Oslo forum.

The French Justice rejected the founder and CEO of Telegram Pavel Durov, accused of complicity in criminal activities, a trip that asked him in Oslo to give a conference, said the Paris prosecutor’s office this Saturday, May 24, requested by AFP.

The Foundation of Human Rights (HRF, Foundation for Human Rights), organizer of the Oslo Libertad Forum, announced on Saturday in a statement that “the French justice rejected the request that Pavel Durov was Norway to express to the Forum of Freedom of Oslo on Tuesday.”

Pavel Durov had been invited to express himself to this annual concentration “on the issue of freedom of expression, surveillance and digital rights.”

“It is unfortunate that French justice prevents Pavel Durov from participating in an event in which her voice would be so useful”, the founder and president of HRF, Thor Halvorssen, in this press release.

France’s visioconference participation

“Technologies such as Telegram are basic tools for those who oppose tyranny. It is more than a disappointment for our community: it is a reverse for freedom,” added Thor Halvorssen.

The press release adds that Pavel Durov will be expressed, however, to this videoconference of France. Requested, their lawyers did not respond.

In mid -May, French justice had already rejected Pavel Durov to go to the United States to meet investors. However, he had been authorized to travel to Dubai between mid -March and early April.

On May 17, the 40 -year -old Russian businessman, naturalized in French in 2021, published several messages about X, accusing Nicolas Lerner, head of French external intelligence, having “asked” to prohibit conservative votes in Romania before the “presidential elections were scheduled for the same day.”

The General Directorate of External Security, French external intelligence, “vigorously refuted” the accusations of Pavel Durov Durov on Monday, while indicating that “it really has been an obligation, several times in recent years, to go into direct contact with Pavel Durov to firmly remember the responsibilities of his business (…) in terms of prevention of terrorist terrorist threats.”
