Meta trained an association with the Startup of Technology and Defense of Attorril, aimed at developing immersive reality (XR) software to train soldiers and police, a first foray of social networks in the army.
This collaboration can allow to offer goal measures for its XR technology (including virtual reality and augmented reality), which struggles to seduce the general public despite colossal investments.
In 2021, the CEO Mark Zuckerberg even led Facebook to change his name to change the name of the finish line, a sign of his commitment to the construction of the metarers, parallel digital universes.
New goal for finish
In four years, the “reality labs” department, which supervises the goal activities linked to Mettarers and immersive reality, has registered a loss of almost $ 58 billion, aroused the concern or even the anger of many investors.
Already in 2014, Facebook had taken control of Oculus, a young company specializing in virtual reality headphones, before launching, in 2019, its first product, Quest.
“Meta has been working for a decade to build the future platform for a decade with AI (artificial intelligence) and augmented reality,” said Mark Zuckerberg, cited in the press release.
“We are proud to collaborate with Andundil to put this technology at the service of US soldiers who protect our interests in the country and abroad,” he added.
Equipment to “help decisions”
Andundil told AFP that the two groups were already working on an XR product ecosystem called Eagleeye.
These new teams are aimed at “providing immersive technology that helps decision -making in combat scenarios,” according to the press release.
“In order not to have more deaths in combat, hundreds of new technologies would take. To avoid most of the deaths in training, you just have to have very good virtual reality simulators,” said Palmer Luckey, co -Funder of Andundil, in the central memory of the podcast.
The 32 -year -old Oculus and entrepreneur, joined Facebook in 2014, before leaving it in 2017 and launching Anduril with Stride.
Meta and Andundil will present their first products to the American Army, as part of their SBMC Innovation Program (Solider Borned Mission Command).
Palmer Luckey indicated that the technologies developed with Meta were intended to serve, in addition to the US army, allied countries, as well as in the local police in the United States.
