In fact, the SREN law of May 21, 2024 aims to protect minors from pornographic sites. The latter must establish a user’s age verification to ensure that they are very important.
Specifically, a recent decree gave 17 months to 17 platforms to establish, the deadline was established for June 6 for companies installed in the European Union. Three days later, at least 7 sites did not agree, according to the findings of Tech & Co. among them, the porn giants Xhamster, Xvideo or XNXX.
These platforms, mainly installed in countries of the European Union, are easily accessible, as long as we make sure they are over 18 years old. On the other hand, Pornhub, Youporn and Redtube were suspended in France, after the decision of their owner Aylo to leave the territory.
Other sites such as Tukif or Jacquie and Michel have established an age verification system for several months.
At the end of April, the Arcom had already put into account two sites, without naming them, to meet. The agency can now request its blockade.
Rejection of editors
Pornography companies are reluctant to impose age controls that generally imply double authentication. Specifically, the one that provides the majority certificate (telecommunications operator, digital identity provider …) does not know why it will be used and the site where this certificate is used does not know the identity of the person.
A solution that many sites reject, starting with Aylo (Pornhub). “We have proposed more appropriate solutions: in particular a verification of the age of users made directly on the device, which would protect both minors and their privacy. They simply ignored us,” he punished the group in a press release, demanding that Apple or Google be directly responsible for the verification of the age.
It also believes that this mandatory age control will divert users to other sites that “deliberately omit regulations” and do not verify the age of people who appear in their content.
