Prohibit social networks under 15 years. This is the French government project, which wants to take it to the European Union level. A project that Emmanuel Macron recalled during his interview in France 2 this Tuesday, June 10.
“We must prohibit social networks under 15,” he said, saying that he is ready to apply this rule in France if the European Union does not.
Age verification
The words of Emmanuel Macron intervene after a supervisor was fatally stabbed by a 14-year-old student at the entrance of a university at Nogent, in Haute-Marne this Tuesday, June 10. Not only the president said that it will no longer be possible for a year of 15 years to buy a knife on the Internet, but also questioned social networks in this incident.
“We live in an increasingly violent society (…) how we are there. I have some explanations,” said Emmanuel Macron, before talking about the problem of social networks. “We live with the generation (…) that, natively, it is on Instagram, in X, in Tiktok,” he reproached the president, indicating that he began in 2015.
For him, it is necessary to prohibit social networks for children under 15 and this is not impossible. “Because all these platforms have the possibility of facial recognition or identifiers to verify age (…) we know how to make facial recognition,” said Emmanuel Macron, remembering European regulation with respect to pornographic sites.
Since June 6, these sites have been forced to verify the age of their visitors to prevent minors from accessing their content. That is why Pornhub, Toporn and Redtube left France last week, refusing to meet these requirements. But other pornographic sites have established an age verification system.
