“A delay bomb”: two deputies want to ban the sale of smartphones under 15 years old

According to Le Figaro, Deputies Jérémie Patrier-Leitus and Ayda Hadizadeh will commission a transparty bill in the next few days for this purpose.

Prevents that the less than -15 buy a smartphone. This is the Horizontes Jérémie Patier-Leitus and Socialist Ayda Hadizabeh Horizons project. As Le Figaro reveals this Thursday, June 12, they plan to cover a transparty bill to prohibit the sale of smartphones to these young people in the coming days.

“The smartphone is a time bomb, a weapon of mass destruction of the link between children and their parents, attention, sleep, self-esteem. Putting it in the hands of our children is unacceptable, as if they were given a glass of wine or a cigarette,” said Jérémie Patier-Leitus every day.

For his leftist colleague, Ayda Hadizadeh, it is about “taking the problem at the root” with this bill. “This law will help parents maintain prohibitions. We can no longer be in important communication campaigns to explain all misunderstandings of smartphones, social networks, etc.”, justified the deputy

Protect young people from social networks

If this text prohibited the sale of smartphones to children under 15, it would not prevent them from having a laptop. “Our goal is not to return to stone age is to explain what these smartphones represent (…) Do you need to have access to Snapchat or Instagram? At this age, there is no good use of a smartphone,” said Jérémie Patrier-Leitus.

The deputies also plan to include the creation of a “limited service phone” label on their bill, for laptops that do not have certain functions, such as social networks or the Internet.

This project occurs when Emmanuel Macron has reaffirmed his desire to ban social networks under 15 years after the murder of a supervisor, stabbed by a 14 -year -old university student in Nogent on June 10. Last year, he also begged the prohibitions of phones under 11, after the presentation of a report made by a group of expert experts and pointed to better supervise the young report to the screens.

While the President of the Republic has threatened to advance his project to prohibit social networks to children under 15 years of age without the EU, the two elected officials hope to see their bill registered on the National Assembly agenda during the next week Transpartes. This will take place in December. Meanwhile, his text will be open to the cosignature of other deputies next week.

And they should obtain the support of many of them. “There are fights that bring us back beyond political labels,” said Horizons Édouard Philippe party in Le Figaro.

When Emmanuel Macron spoke once again about his project to ban social networks less than 15 years ago, the deputy had already recalled that a bill had already been adopted for this purpose. “We are waiting for her to enter into force,” he said in BFMTV. But such prohibition is difficult to configure.
