For many people, music only listens with their ears. However, it is possible to take advantage of it in another way, feeling it through vibrations. A function that Apple has been offering for a few months for music to be accessible for deaf and with hearing problems.
Called “Touch Music” (Music Haptics), has been available since the launch of iOS 18, last September. As the name implies, it allows people who cannot listen to music feeling with touch, with vibrations, pressures and textures that emanate from the iPhone, rhythm with the song heard.
A function in which Apple returned to France Music Week, an international week that will bring together the cream of the actors in the music industry and will begin on June 16.
“It’s lovely”
For years, Apple has offered functions to make its devices accessible, as well as its services. “Accessibility is very important for us,” said Sarah Herrlinger, global manager of policies and accessibility initiatives within the company, during an event that Tech & Co helped.
The touch music function, which is available in Apple Music, Apple Music Classical, but also Shazam, represents a revolution for deaf people and with hearing problems.
“It is magnificent. I have no words to describe the fate that we deaf, we can have that (…) This is something we see with the stars in the eyes,” said Mattéo, a deaf rapper from birth, after feeling the music thanks to this function.
And he is not the only one. Sophie Vouzelaud, deaf from birth, which was chosen first broker of Miss France in 2007. As she said during the event organized by Apple, she had to work in a choreography at the time of competition, which she managed to do the night of the elections. But one thing disturbed her: the fact that he could not listen to music during the essays and D -day. Because, at that time, it was not possible to enjoy music with vibrations.
If Apple’s function is useful for deaf and with hearing problems, it also allows others to enjoy music differently. Because it is accessible to all, from the configuration, selecting accessibility, then touch music in the hearing section. Tested by Tech & Co, it makes music more immersive, with sound in the ears and vibrations of the iPhone.
That is why many people who are not deaf or with hearing problems use it, as Sarah Herrlinger said.
