Registration data leak: 16 billion connection identifiers are at the mercy of cybercriminals

A team of Cybernews researchers discovered a leak of almost 16 billion data, made available to cybercriminals online.

A record for which it is difficult to rejoice it. The specialized cybersecurity information site of Cybernew has discovered several gigantic databases, which they added, represent a leak of almost 16 billion connection identifiers.

This information has been stolen by several malicious software, whose objective is to steal maximum information on a device, they are also called “infoteale infants” (information thieves). The fault scale exposes all this data to certain online players. Well used, they can become harmful to the owner (access to the bank account, hack a commercial account).

“With more than 16 billion exposed connection identifiers, cybercounts now have unprecedented access to personal identification information that can be used to take control of accounts, identity theft and the hook very directed,” said the team of Cybernews researchers who discovered the defect.

Google, Apple and Facebook worried

Cybernews explains that a wide range of online platforms is affected by data leakage. This impacts in particular Apple, Google, Facebook, Telegram, Github, VPN, to certain government services.

These 16 billion data are actually the addition of 30 huge stolen data sets, unearthed for several months by a team of Cybernews researchers. The largest of these data sets has 3.5 billion identifiers and is “linked to the population that speaks of Portuguese.”

Although the holders are not clearly identified, researchers seem sure that cybercriminals are in possession of some of these data sets.

The exposure of this information makes “these data particularly dangerous for organizations that do not have a multifactorial authentication system, nor good authentication hygiene,” warns Cybernews researchers.

How do I know if I was pirated?

The tools exist online to find out if your data has leaked. The “We have been Pwned” site is remarkably recognized for identifying possible mail management leaks.

Simply enter your email address at the bar and the site will show if your account has leaked in the past. If it’s green, don’t worry, your account is not in danger. On the other hand, if it is red, his direction was the victim of a leak. You can then consult what events are responsible for exposing your data.

But given the very recent character of the escape mentioned above, it is still too early to know if you are one of the 16 billion stolen data. There is a good possibility that the site has not yet identified the millions of accounts affected by the escape.
