After a half marathon in April, humanoid robots were invited to another sport in China. As reported by Associated Press, four teams composed of these LMachines met in football matches this Saturday, June 28 in Beijing. Thanks to artificial intelligence, these robots had to operate independently, which can move in the field without the intervention of a human.
They could also coordinate between them and have different strategies and techniques. If these robots were also designed to get up only after a fall, many were evacuated from the ground in a stretcher by humans. They were not completely independent.
Soon it coincides between robots and humans
This soccer tournament occurs when China is preparing for World Humanoid Robots, which will be held in the capital in August. The country intensifies its efforts to develop these machines, using sports competitions such as marathon and football as trial lands under real conditions.
As part of the football tournament, humanoid robots were designed by the Chinese company Booster Robotics. The four university teams developed and integrated their own algorithms of perception, decision making or variables such as speed and strength.
Like the half marathon in April, humanoid robots could soon face humans in football matches. “Later, we could organize football matches between robots and humans. This means that we must guarantee their absolute security,” said Cheng Hao, founder and CEO of Booster Robotics, for Associated Press.
“For example, a robot and a human could play a game in which victory would not matter, but where real offensive and defensive interactions would be carried out. This would allow the public to gain confidence and understand that robots are safe,” he said.
