A painting created by AI limits the absorption of the heat of a building

A team of researchers has developed an AI capable of generating materials, which in the form of paint allow it to better reflect light and, therefore, preserve the freshness of a building.

AI also knows how to handle the brush. The abrasing episodes caused by global warming are increasing, such as temperatures measured in recent days in France. Although it is essential to stop the phenomenon by reducing pollution, research analyzes the means to partially adapt to the climate change that takes place.

In an article published in Nature and seen by Le Guardian, a team of Chinese, American, Swedish and Singapurenses researchers, explains that he has developed an algorithm that makes it possible to make different types of materials. Applied in the form of paint on the façade of buildings, the latter makes it possible to preserve heat or cold outside.

Reduction of up to 20 ° C

In this study, the team of researchers was interested in the absorption of the heat of certain materials, characterized by color and components. Although they had to try each of these materials in real conditions (which can be very long), now, IA can easily create mixtures of effective molecules and, therefore, avoid the many test phases. Therefore, researchers have generated almost 1,500 materials, called “thermal meta -emotional”, which allows regulating the temperature of a building, depending on the geographical area and sun exposure.

These new components have the ability to more easily reflect the sun’s rays and, therefore, preserve heat homes. This method intends to reduce Heat island effectsparticularly harmful during heat wave periods in the main cities.

To prove their algorithm, the researchers exhibited three buildings dressed in different paintings for four hours: a first gray commercial painting, a second white commercial paint and a third of a white paint generated by its AI (TME-3).

They measured on the surface of the third building a reduction of up to 5 ° C compared to the white (commercial) ceiling. The gray roof shows it more than 20 ° C more. This difference is accentuated by the Albédo, a phenomenon that means that dark surfaces absorb more light and, therefore, heat, than white surfaces.

Ai, material designer

The use of AI to make custom made materials is a democratized procedure. Beyond the construction sector, these materials developed by AI could be applied to other areas. We think in particular in the body of the vehicle, particularly subject to heat absorption. The textile industry could also benefit from these components generated by the algorithm, especially in countries exposed to the sun.

With respect to the painting generated by AI, this type of innovation does not limit global warming, but only allows you to better support. The episodes of heat waves intensify, to the point where France could experience picos at 50 ° C by 2100.
