Despite Donald Trump’s pressures, Europe wants to impose on AI to reveal its sources

As of August 2, 2025, the generative artificial intelligences that operate in Europe must indicate the sources of information they provide to their users.

Advance, at all costs. This July 24, 2024, the European Commission confirmed that it would impose new rules for companies with generative from August 2. On this date, they will have to present the sources they use when they provide information to their users.

Operai with Chatgpt, Mistral with the cat or XAI with Grok, will have to comply, all, as part of the “Act Law”, which regulates artificial intelligence in the European territory.

Allow the beneficiaries to see more clearly on AI

Often accused of not proposing clear rules on AI by its creators, the European Union has this plan with a more complete framework, with new transparency obligations.

These are each representative of AI (or not) “systemic risks” or published (or not) under a free license.

The text is particularly expected by beneficiaries who have long been looking to make companies pay for increasingly used generations throughout the continent. Some suspect them to have happily looted content subject to copyright, despite the implementation of an “option” in 2019, which protects the works.

But its effectiveness has always been criticized because it was difficult to verify. Google, Openai, XAI or Claude do not provide the list of sources on which they are based to train their AI.

A mandatory fountain list

As of August 2, these companies will have to list the main databases used for training, but also describe the data that have been collected on the Internet, “either private, public, extracted from online sources,” specifies the text.

“The model adopted today by the Commission is a new important step towards a reliable and transparent AY,” said Henna Virkkunen, vice president in charge of technological sovereignty, “we can strengthen confidence in AI and release all its potential for the benefit of the economy and society.”

The implementation of these new regulations is made while the European Union is under pressure from Donald Trump. Ince. with the treatment reserved for US companies, the president wants to impose high customs duties in retaliation. When publishing its final report this July 24, the European Commission seems to be ready for confrontation, unless other reversal of the situation.

For beneficiaries, these lists will be very useful: they will have documents to rely to claim a financial contribution.
