Should you really use your PS5 at full power? This question was asked Sony to announce the next important update of its last living room console, currently in Beta.
In addition to the possibility of connecting the dualsense controller to several devices through dedicated profiles, players can also activate a “energy saving” mode, whose particularity is to reduce the general power of the console.
A reduction in games of games to wait
When activated, this mode not only reduces electricity consumption, but also automatically reduces the performance at stake: “PS5 games that support this functionality will reduce their performance and allow their PS5 to reduce its energy consumption,” explains Shuzo Kikuchi, vice president produced in Sony Interactive Entertainment.
For the option to activate, the games must be compatible. If this is not the case, then the mode will not be available.
Among the characteristics that will disappear, there are VR mode, but also “certain characteristics” not detailed at this stage. However, you can imagine that graphic modes, focused on the performance at the expense of the definition, could be touched.
Sony justifies the addition of this way for its intention to continue developing its environmental plan, called “Road to Zero.”
The update, currently in Beta, must be tested by players before arriving “in the coming months” in PlayStation 5 worldwide. You can reach the test group for free in this direction.
Meanwhile, there are other solutions to consume as little as possible: food options. When you want to turn off the PS5 (but also the Switch or the Xbox series), you can choose to complete the console instead of leaving it.
If it is your choice, keep in mind that it will no longer be possible to update your console (or your games) automatically, or even load the wireless controller.
