Why will your old (but very practical) network of “freewifi” end freely?

Together with the FEMOCELL, the free operator will also end with another of its historical services, turning the page of an expanding Wi -Fi network.

Even today, when walking down the street and scan the surrounding Wi -Fi networks, it is almost certain to find a “freewifi” connection. But this habit will end soon, since the operator has announced to end it.

Configured by the French operator as soon as their ADSL offers are launched, this service allows you to transform Freebox throughout France into a free Wi -Fi terminal. A very practical option at a time when 4G and 5G were still distant projects.

A technology that has had its time

But this is no longer the case: mobile networks that have evolved drastically at the same time as the quality of the service and, therefore, flows, the free will definitely end Freewifi, and its counterpart for mobile subscribers, Freewifi_Sesecure, after October 1, 2025.

This exhausting of a Marketing argument today revolved is not the only one of the year. A few days ago, the operator who pushed the world of telecommunications, also announced to stop the femotoll.

The latter is presented as a small case to put in a free box, which allows to create a mobile network locally and, therefore, benefit from better quality calls. But since then, the “calls wifi” technology has taken the step (which, therefore, uses the Wi -Fi network), acting the disinterest of users for the femotocell. Orange had stopped his own boxes in 2021.

In general, operators seek drastically to improve the hardware part to admit more recent technologies, including Wi -Fi 6, 6 and 7. In 2024 and 2025 alone, most operators went to the latest on the wireless internet. Free had just been the first to start with Ultra Freebox … that he didn’t have femotoll or freewifi.

Therefore, the end of FEMOCELL and Freewifi are only the logical continuation of a more general movement in the Internet subscription market.
