“Stolen Door,” Kill Switch “: Nvidia refuses to integrate surveillance devices into his flea

Nvidia opposes the will of certain US elected officials who wish to integrate control tools with the company’s fleas. A measure that aims in particular to control Chinese innovation.

Dressed in The Verge, David Reber Jr., Chief of Security of Nvidia, recently wrote a blog note. He explains in the latter that the chips produced by the company have and should have “neither stolen door, nor” killing switch “, nor spy software.” An announcement that marks the company’s opposition to the wishes of the United States government.

In the innovation race, the United States wants to maintain the right to control its chips. Hence the implementation of a “killing switch”, a tool that allows the chips to be unusable remotely and a stolen door, another tool that allows us to infiltrate the devices equipped with the component.

“To relieve the risk of abusive use, some political experts and decision -making manufacturers propose to impose the installation of” killing “switching or integrated controls to remotely deactivate processors without knowledge and without the user’s consent,” said Nvidia security chief.

“An excessive reaction”

The announcement occurs while there are large commercial tensions between China and the United States. The Chinese technology industry depends greatly on US electronic chips. To develop its AI, the country of Asia is particularly fond of H20 chips produced by NVIDIA.

To slow down its Asian competitor, the Biden government has repeatedly tried to hinder the export of these beautiful fleas to China. But this choice runs a great economic risk for Nvidia. Today, the marketing of fleas with China has resumed.

In May 2025, US policies created the “Chips Security Law” (which should not be confused with the “Chips Law”), a law that aims to avoid “unauthorized” uses of US files. This text significantly requires the implementation of “security mechanisms to control the location of the chip”, describes the site of the United States Congress.

But some elected officials want to go further with the integration of these “death switches” and these stolen doors. It is assumed that semiconductor manufacturers such as NVIDIA integrate these surveillance mechanisms in their products before November 11, 2025.

For their part, the Chinese claim that these control devices are already included in the chips that are sold to them. Making them more mandatory will encourage the Chinese market to move away from Nvidia. In order not to depend more on the United States, China is already looking to produce its fleas locally.
