Almost a year after Google’s announcement, Android smartphones can now detect and blur nude images in Google messages. The company began to implement this function a few days ago, as reported by the Specialized Site 9TO5GOOGLE. Called “confidential content warnings”, it is now available on certain smartphones in France, as Tech & Co.
“Confidential content warnings can detect and blur the images that probably contain nudity in Google messages, show a message if you try to receive, send or transfer a naked image, provide you with help resources when you receive this type of content,” Google said on a dedicated support page.
Protect minors with warnings
With this function, Google is especially seeking to protect minors better, like Apple, which has been offering this tool since July 2022. Therefore, it is activated by default for users supervised by their parents through a family link and non-supervised adolescents (13-17 years).
Therefore, when the user receives an image that contains naked, the function of Fuzzo and shows a warning that includes advice and resources, such as “discovering why naked images can be dangerous.” Then you can decide to show it or not. You will also see other options, such as blocking the sender number.
Keep in mind that the function is deactivated by those over 18 years. To activate it, you must press your profile picture or your initial in the upper right in Google messages, then “application configuration”, “protection and security” and “administer warnings of confidential content”. You can then activate “option” warnings in Google messages. “
On its support page, Google specifies that its functionality is not infallible. In other words, you may blur images that do not include naked and do not detect others that contain it. The company also ensures that detection and blur are carried out on the smartphone, so that they are not sent.
