New workforce in the hot seat on Tiktok. According to the Financial Times, the Chinese social network has more than one billion users, it is about to dismiss hundreds of employees in charge of moderation in London. These people are in charge of verifying that the content published on the platform complies with security standards. London teams would have 300 employees dedicated to these missions.
A global phenomenon
Lately, Tiktok multiplies the layoffs of his moderators, especially in Europe. In July 2025, the company fired the entire team of moderators in the Netherlands, 300 people. The same situation in Germany in early August 2025: the platform separated from 150 of its moderators in Berlin.
According to Financial Times, Tiktok seeks to restructure his European teams. He wants to concentrate moderation activities in countries such as Portugal or Ireland.
The phenomenon is not inherent in Europe, but affects the company worldwide. Reuters had reported at the beginning of the year that Tiktok separated from the important actions of his trusted and security teams on other continents, in Asia and Africa.
Ai in compensation
However, the Chinese company does not intend to completely get rid of moderation on its platform. The Chinese giant wants to bet on AI to compensate for staff losses.
But this madness for language models is not for the taste of the worm, the union that represents Tiktok employees. He denounces a lack of reliability from AI that could not “really identify images or problematic videos, especially when it comes to sophisticated content,” said a union spokesman.
However, Tiktok is not the only social network that now intends to rest moderation in AI. Meta Group (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp) had been involved in a similar dynamic in last spring.
