This is the event of all records. From this Thursday, October 4 until Sunday, September 7, hundreds of streamers are mobilized for the ninth edition of the Zevento. The most famous Caritative Marathon on Twitch has reported no less than 41 million euros since its launch.
Created in 2016 by the Streameur Zerator and his Dach Acolyt under the name of “Project Avengers”, the event that tries to raise a maximum of funds to help associations have grown well. At first, there were 16, in a rented house a little in the last minute.
Between “600,000 euros and one million euros”
But in recent years, the event has been professionalized. For this ninth edition of the event, no less than 350 streamers participate, on the site or online, in the Marathon of Charity. The house also gave way to several dedicated rooms, as well as the Cenit de Montpellier, which has been to organize a concert the day before the event since 2021.
In total, Zevent costs between “600,000 euros and one million euros” to its organizers, Zerator figure for the world. An amount explained by the cost of rentals. Each marathon requires at least three rooms equipped to accommodate streamers and technical teams. To this is added the rental of the Montpellier Cenit for the concert.
The concert is precisely extremely expensive. It represents “between 25% and 30%” of the budget, according to Nicolas Di Martino, president of ZQSD Productions, the company that coorganizes the Zavento, interviewed by Le Monde. Outside the room, logistics for the event and especially the prestige of the artists weighing heavy on the scale.
“The real piece is the concert,” says Zerator. “We have one hundred people who work on it, we bring people, you have to communicate, there is the box office, you have to accommodate the artists, work with record companies, beneficiaries, Turners, Productions,” he lists. “It’s a great disaster.” For the event, some music stars, however, agree to check their cache down. Some, accustomed to receiving 200,000 euros, agree to come for 5,000 euros.
Some aid to lighten the invoice
This year, most Streamers will participate directly from their sofa. But forty serpentines will be present at the site. If all are volunteers, you still have to house them.
“We pay everything that will be used to do our transmission on the site. We also pay the tables, the restoration, the trip, the security and also all the activities.” In 2022, a fighting ring was, for example, installed.
To lighten the invoice, ZQSD installs the control room for free. The Zevent can count on the loan of equipment and discounts by companies or the region. Enough to save almost 350,000 euros from the organizers.
If Twitch has long supported the charity marathon for a long time, this has not been the case since 2022. Until then, the costs were distributed by third parties between Zt Productions, Zerator and Dach Company, their acolyte, the associations placed in the center of attention and the platform. No sponsor surrounds the event, which is not monetized either. Therefore, it was necessary to completely rethink the economic model.
Finance associations 80% of the event
Now, the production of ZQSD and ZT pay 20% of the project. The rest is funded by associations that benefit from donations. The base of France advances its costs. In 2024, the 150,000 euros needed for their participation was advised to solidarité to solidarité paysans.
With the success of the Zevento for nine years, associations will surely recover their initial bets and much more. Last year, Secours Populaire, Cop1, the heart offices, the solidarity peasants and Chapter 2 shared no less than 10 million euros. Or 2 million euros per NGO (1.85 million, eliminating management rates and advanced advances).
In addition to the unexpected financial profit, the Zevent allows associations directly contacting an audience that is not necessarily aware of the cause, and in particular young people who watch television less and less.
“Getting to Zevento is also a way of explaining what we do, visiting our actions. Because the most important thing is to encourage young people to mobilize and join us,” he explained in February in February in Tech & Co Malika Tabti, director of Public Relations of Secours Populaire. Young objectives, therefore, that could even become long -term regular donors.
