The proportion of fraud in online payments continued to decrease in 2024 in France, according to the figures published on Tuesday by the Banques Security Observatory of France (OSMP).
A 0.155% proportion of online payments with a French bank card was subject to fraud in 2024, against 0.160% in 2023.
The user manipulation fraud rate, for example, when the scammer pretended to be a bank advisor on the phone, is also slightly reflected during the year.
The OSMP wants to see in this particular fall the effect of the deployment by the telephone operators of a mechanism aimed at interrupting the calls that imitate another number since October 2024 after a law promulgated in 2020.
However, manipulation fraud remains and has constituted almost a third of the general amount of fraud through last year’s payment.
This amount is an estimate, made of fraud data in transfers and online card payments made despite the strong authentication.
In more general terms, the OSMP points out that in 2024, despite the fact that the amount of transactions that exclude cash increased, that of stabilized fraud, to 1.19 billion euros (-0.6% compared to 2023).
