The European “Social Networks Court” questions YouTube for its lack of cooperation

The organization is supposed to offer social network users with appeal solutions has strongly criticized YouTube attitude, accused of not complying with the rules.

The European call center, a new body responsible for reducing the disputes of social networks in the European Union, criticized the lack of cooperation of certain platforms on Wednesday, September 30, in particular YouTube, a Google subsidiary.

The European call center was created last year in response to the requirements of European digital services (DSA).

An extrajudicial organization within the reach of Europeans

This text forces platforms to offer their users an extrajudicial body to decide their litigation, starting with those related to the elimination of content or the closure of accounts, while before, they had to enter justice through often long and expensive procedures.

But this new “Court of Appeals” of social networks deplores a lack of cooperation of certain platforms.

Therefore, the independent organization points out that most Europeans do not know their existence, probably because networks are not in a hurry to encourage consumers to call their decisions.

Therefore, the center calls them to communicate widely with users, to remedy this lack of visibility.

And, above all, not all platforms play the game: to decide the litigation, the center needs to analyze the content or accounts eliminated, and it happens that companies have problems recovering them, or even dragging their feet to transmit them.

There are no data provided by YouTube

This is the particular case of YouTube, which until now has not provided any content in the center. As a result, in 343 admissible references on the Google subsidiary received for less than a year, the body could only solve 29, specifies in a report published on Wednesday.

This also happens, but much less frequently, with Facebook and Instagram (subsidiary goal), as well as Tiktok.

In these cases, the body generally gives reasons “by default” to Internet users in question, not being able to examine the problematic content. A way to push the platforms to cooperate.

The center, even in full takeoff (until now has received almost 10,000 references, of which around 3,300 have been considered admissible, and 1,500 have been treated), they want to extend their activity to other forms of litigation: at the end of the year, those linked to scams and ads, and, next year, identity usurpation issues.

The organ also wants to continue adding new networks to its perimeter, without specifying which. At first, he limited himself to Facebook, Tiktok and YouTube, extended to Instagram, threads and recently Pinterest.
