Cyberatacks of Russian computer pirates, drones that come to paralyze airports, videos that come to throw oil on social networks … Russia has led the invasion of Ukraine, a true war on the Internet. And this, not to mention the false websites operated from the Russian soil, pretending to be European media when taking their graphic codes.
A war described as “hybrid”, which does not consist in bombarding soldiers and civilians, but also to instill doubts between the populations of allied nations with their enemies, such as Ukraine.
“The Russian secret army extends in our democracies”
A new agreement that Emmanuel Macron denounces in an interview with the Frankfurter of the German media Allgemeine Zeitung: “We undergo how Russians influence our public opinion by transmitting erroneous information, telling stories about an invasion of bed bug in France.”
In the autumn of 2023, the French media had largely transmitted an explosion of the bedroom infestation, and the accounts carried out by Russia had allowed this information to become viral, as confirmed by Jean-NOël Barrot, minister delegated by Europe.
For Emmanuel Macron, it is the work of “small anonymous warriors called digital bots”: “They manipulate democracy in France, Germany and Europe.”
The impact of Russian accounts on elections
Small anonymous warriors who work until they try to change the elections. In Romania, an extreme right candidate, Pro-Russia, had suddenly managed to climb the elections thanks to a campaign on Tiktok financed by relatives of the Kremlin. Also in Moldova, the elections had been complicated by false information disseminated in social networks and cyber attacks against government servers.
In spite of this, Russia has not been successful: in both cases, it is the pro -European party that finally reached the top. For Russia, it is a matter of interfering in the electoral process to bow the scales towards more volunteer leaders to integrate their ideas instead of joining Europe.
Social networks have become the favorite weapon of defense of Russian power, while it can no longer count on their diffusion channels such as RT and Sputnik, prohibited by dissemination in Europe since the invasion of Ukraine. These two media are financed and in the hands of Vladimir Putin.
